DJI Phantom 4 advanced

Consumer drone pioneers DJI just announced their latest phantom 4 model, which they’re calling the Phantom 4 advanced. This announcement comes about a half year after they presented the world with the Phantom 4 pro model, the “Plus” variant of which is still the top of the line phantom that money can buy.

Spoilt for choice?
As if picking a drone wasn’t hard enough already, they’ve inserted this mid-to-pro drone in their offering, giving cinematographers and drone enthusiasts yet another choice in the already incredible phantom line-up.
As is the rest of the line up, the phantom 4 advanced targets cinematographers, a fact that is clearly visible since like it’s elder brother, the advanced also comes with 4k @60 frames per second as a possible shooting mode, allowing for ultra smooth, ultra high definition content with the added advantage of being able to use slow motion.

The main thing to grab from this is the Video bitrate of DJI Phantom 4 advanced, which is a very reasonable 100Mbits/sec.

Thoughts

As a cinematographer, the I feel the Phantom 4 advanced is better than all the predecessors in it’s segment because of 2 key facts. It has high bitrate 4k recording, and it has a mechanical aperture. Combine that with the fact that it has a 1″ sensor, and it satisfies some of the core requirements that the Pro version does, and it does all this at a cheaper price than the Pro, at USD$1,349.00/ 1.549,00 € for the European market. After destroying the GoPro Karma with the Mavic Pro, the P4 Advanced is the final hammer on top of the nail so you don’t even need to think about going to any of their competitors.
